How C0 is calculated
C0 is the geometric mean of A0 and B0. The short side comes from √(841 × 1000) = 917 mm, the long side from √(1189 × 1414) = 1297 mm. Its area is 1.189 m², the fourth root of 2. That places C0 exactly between A0 and B0 in size, and the same pattern runs through the whole series down to C10.
Where C0 is used
C0 envelopes hardly exist. The size is mainly a reference for anything that has to hold A0 flat: plan folders, archive sleeves and plan chest drawers need to be a little larger than A0 itself, and C0 describes exactly that margin. A0 drawings are usually sent rolled in a postal tube or folded down to A4.
