D1 is the geometric mean of A1 (594 × 841 mm) and B2 (500 × 707 mm). Its sides are about 8 % shorter than those of A1, and its area is 84 % of A1. The step from D1 up to A1 is the same as the step from A1 up to C1.
Cutting D1 from A1
You cannot buy D1 paper ready-made. The easiest way is to trim an A1 sheet: 49 mm off the width and 70 mm off the height. At this size a long cutting mat and a steel ruler work best, or ask a print shop to trim the sheet.
Framing D1
There are no D1 frames. The closest standard size is 60 × 80 cm, which leaves 27.5 mm on each side and 14.5 mm at the top and bottom. A narrow mount fills the gap.
